Greece Fines Nestlé and Others €1.05 Million For Profit Violations

Greece’s Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection imposed fines totalling €1.05 million on five companies after inspections by the Interagency Market Control Unit (DIMEA) found breaches of the cap on gross profit margins.

The Authority said the penalties followed checks enforcing Article 54 of Law 5045/2023, which set limits on gross profit margins and remained in force until 30 June 2025.

According to the announcement, inspectors found that the companies exceeded the permitted gross profit margin on a total of 65 product codes, after reviewing 3,168 product codes overall. The inspections covered periods from 2023 through 2025 and assessed gross profit margin per unit against the level in place before 31 December 2021.

The Authority issued the largest fine to Lidl Hellas & SIA O.E., imposing €670,925 for breaches involving 26 product codes during the inspection period of May–June 2025.

Nestlé Hellas Single-Member S.A. received a €144,700 fine for breaches involving four product codes during October–November 2023.

Alpha Beta Vassilopoulos Single-Member S.A. received a €109,900 fine for breaches involving 22 product codes during May–June 2025.

Market In A.E.V.E. received a €72,370 fine for breaches involving 12 product codes during May–June 2025.

Flora Food Greece Single-Member P.C. received a €52,870 fine for breaching the cap on one product code during October–December 2023.

The Authority’s governor, Despoina Tsaggari, signed the decisions on 6 February 2026 after accepting DIMEA’s recommendation. Officials said the action formed part of strengthened market oversight aimed at protecting consumers and tackling profiteering.
