Ferry services from two of Greece’s main ports, Piraeus and Rafina, will be largely suspended on Saturday due to gale-force winds affecting the central Aegean Sea, authorities announced on Friday.
The sailing ban applies to both morning and afternoon departures and is expected to remain in place throughout the day. Weather conditions are forecast to improve from Sunday, allowing routes to gradually return to normal. Passengers are advised to contact local port authorities or their ferry operators directly to avoid unnecessary travel disruption.
According to Greece’s national weather service, strong southwesterly winds reaching speeds of 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, and locally up to force 8, are expected in the Cyclades island group. These conditions prompted precautionary measures at major ports serving island routes.
Several ferry services have already been canceled. Among them are sailings operated by Blue Star Ferries, Fast Ferries, and Golden Star Ferries. The affected vessels include Blue Star Paros, Blue Star Delos, Andros Queen, and Theologos P.
Specifically, the Blue Star Paros service from Piraeus to Syros, Tinos, and Mykonos, as well as its return trip, will not operate. The Blue Star Delos route from Piraeus to Paros, Naxos, and Santorini has also been canceled. From the port of Rafina, services connecting Andros, Tinos, and Mykonos have been suspended, including routes operated by Andros Queen and Theologos P.
