Greece, Italy, and Morocco have emerged as top contenders for British tourists seeking affordable summer escapes in 2026, offering budget-friendly vacation packages that cater to a variety of travel needs. These destinations combine rich cultural experiences with lower costs, making them ideal for travelers looking to maximize their holiday without breaking the bank. Whether it’s Greece’s stunning islands, Italy’s historic charm, or Morocco’s vibrant markets, each country presents unique opportunities to enjoy summer travel on a budget.
A recent report from a British consumer protection organization has revealed a fascinating breakdown of vacation prices across Europe and beyond, with Zakynthos, Greece, standing out as the only Greek destination in the ranking. The study examined the average cost of a seven-night vacation package, looking at both well-established travel agencies and popular destinations during peak tourist season.
Zakynthos, a stunning island in the Ionian Sea, came in at 10th place on the list with an average vacation cost of £1,142 per person for a week-long package. Known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, Zakynthos has become a popular destination for tourists seeking both relaxation and adventure. The report also compared vacation prices at two well-known travel agencies, Jet2holidays and easyJet Holidays, during the peak season. This comparison aimed to shed light on pricing trends across the most in-demand travel spots in Europe.
In the case of easyJet Holidays, the study found that a seven-night stay at the four-star Flamingo Beach Resort in Zakynthos was priced at £886 per person. This was significantly cheaper than other destinations, highlighting the affordability of the island in comparison to other European hotspots.
While Zakynthos claims 10th place, Tuscany, Italy, took the second spot, with an average vacation cost of £929 for a summer holiday. Tuscany’s enchanting landscapes, rich history, and delectable cuisine make it a prime destination for tourists from all over the world. The region, renowned for its vineyards and charming hilltop towns, offers a quintessential Italian experience. Despite being one of Italy’s most beloved regions, Tuscany remains more affordable than other tourist-heavy destinations. In fact, Tuscany’s pricing is more competitive compared to regions like Sardinia, where the average price for a seven-night vacation package is £1,508 per person, over £500 higher than Tuscany’s cost. Sardinia, although equally beautiful and popular, commands a premium price for a similar holiday experience, making Tuscany a more budget-friendly choice for many travelers.
In third place on the list was Agadir, Morocco, which emerged as the most affordable destination outside of Europe with an average cost of £946 per person for a seven-night stay. Known for its warm weather, vibrant culture, and strong Atlantic waves, Agadir has become a popular destination for surfers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking an affordable vacation experience. Agadir offers a low-cost holiday experience, with many visitors enjoying the country’s reasonably priced accommodation and activities. Its affordability, combined with a unique cultural experience, makes it a top choice for travelers on a budget.
Following closely in fourth place is Dalaman, Turkey, with an average vacation cost of £1,048 per person for a seven-day trip. Turkey’s Mediterranean coast is a perennial favorite for British tourists, and Dalaman, with its pristine beaches and luxurious resorts, is a prime example of the country’s appeal. Known for its diverse offerings, from beach resorts to historical ruins, Dalaman provides a balance of affordability and luxury. The pricing in Dalaman reflects the balance between its high demand and its competitive pricing in the region, making it an accessible yet lavish destination for those looking for an all-around experience.
Spain remains dominant in the top ten list, with six of its destinations located in either the Costa or Canary Islands. Spain’s popularity among British tourists is undeniable, with the country offering a variety of landscapes, activities, and cultural experiences to suit all tastes and budgets. However, the Balearic Islands, a prominent Spanish destination including Mallorca, Ibiza, and Menorca, were noticeably absent from the list, perhaps due to their often higher vacation prices.
Among the various destinations in Spain, Tenerife in the Canary Islands stood out for its affordability. The report revealed that the cheapest vacation package in Tenerife was found in the resort of Puerto de la Cruz, where the average price was £77 per person. However, it is important to note that while these budget options exist, four-star hotels and higher-end accommodations in Tenerife tend to be priced closer to £1,000 per person. The wide price range in Tenerife shows the diversity of vacation options available, from budget-friendly accommodations to luxury resorts.
The report covered 13 countries, examining vacation prices in popular destinations and resorts across Europe and beyond. The countries included Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey. The study aimed to offer a comprehensive look at how vacation costs compare across different regions, allowing travelers to make more informed decisions about where to visit based on their budget and preferences.
Greece, Italy, and Morocco are set to be the most affordable summer destinations for British tourists in 2026, offering budget-friendly vacation packages that combine rich cultural experiences with great value for money.
Zakynthos, Greece, offers an attractive option for travelers seeking a relatively affordable Greek destination with a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty.
