The Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) participated in a London forum examining the future of tourism in the Artificial Intelligence era, focusing on regenerative tourism and sustainable destination development.

The event, titled “Smart and Regenerative Tourism & Hospitality Competitiveness in the AI Era,” brought together approximately 100 tourism professionals. Dimitrios Buhalis initiated the forum, which Bournemouth University co-organised alongside the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research, Central London Alliance and Blue Orchid Hotels.
Eleni Skarveli, Head of the EOT Service for the United Kingdom and Ireland, joined the panel “Regenerative & Competitive Tourism Destinations and Hospitality.” Participants examined how tourism destinations and businesses could move beyond conventional sustainability models and adopt regenerative tourism strategies that enhance competitiveness in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Skarveli highlighted Greece’s strategic role in sustainable tourism and presented the platform sustainablegreece.co.uk as a tool promoting Greek destinations and regenerative tourism practices. She also referred to Tilos and the GR-eco islands initiative, as well as the plastic recycling laboratory of the social cooperative Apano Meria Social Cooperative in Syros, developed in collaboration with the Cyclades Preservation Fund.
She also highlighted Epirus as an authentic destination with strong potential for growth through mild and sustainable tourism models, supported by its rich natural environment and cultural heritage.
Other panel participants included Leanne Smith from VisitEngland, Virginia Messina, CEO of the African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA), Siamand Hesami and Adam Blake from Bournemouth University. Adele Ladkin chaired the discussion.
