ATHENS – The Greek Patriot guided missile system battery in Saudi Arabia have shot down two ballistic missiles launched from Iran that were heading toward refineries within the Saudi kingdom, National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias stated on Thursday.

“In this way, the Greek battery demonstrates its combat-readiness and the experience it has gained all this time,” the minister said.
“Also, it is indirectly but clearly protecting the living standards of Greek and European citizens,” he added.
Dendias stressed that a constant increase in oil prices posed a huge threat for the living standards of Greeks, Europeans and everyone on the planet, pointing out that high prices also endangered Greece and posed a very great threat, making the protection of refineries and oil production units very important at this time.
“I want to congratulate the personnel of the Armed Forces, of the Hellenic Air Force in Saudi Arabia for what they have accomplished,” Dendias concluded.
The minister made the statement after a working breakfast with the ambassadors of EU member-states in Athens, organised by the Cypriot Ambassador to Greece Stavros Avgoustides, in the context of the Cypriot EU presidency.
