Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army, met George Gerapetritis, Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Benghazi on Saturday to discuss bilateral relations, including cooperation on tackling illegal migration and advancing reconstruction projects.

Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Haftar’s forces, also attended the meeting, which focused on strengthening ties between Libya and Greece.
According to a statement issued by Haftar’s General Command, Gerapetritis said the visit reflects Greece’s commitment to deepening relations with Libya, noting that cooperation between the two countries continues to show significant progress.
The Greek Foreign Minister highlighted the involvement of specialised Greek companies in infrastructure and reconstruction initiatives, as well as plans to expand academic collaboration between Greek institutions and Libyan universities, including the University of Benghazi.
Gerapetritis emphasised the importance of increasing bilateral trade and reopening maritime routes to facilitate the movement of goods and commercial products between the two countries.
Both sides also stressed the need for coordination and cooperation in addressing illegal migration in a way that supports the interests of both nations and contributes to regional stability.
Gerapetritis is scheduled to visit Tripoli next Wednesday, where he will meet with additional Libyan officials as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement.
Earlier this month, Cairo hosted regular consultations between Egypt and Greece on developments in Libya. Both countries reaffirmed their support for a Libyan-led political process aimed at holding simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections.
