Greece will bring its Rebrain Greece initiative to New York on Sunday, December 7, as part of a renewed push to reverse years of brain drain by connecting skilled expatriates with high-quality jobs back home, the Labor and Social Security Ministry said.
The event, held at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, will feature 35 leading companies operating in Greece and aims to link highly qualified Greek professionals living in the United States and Canada with employers seeking talent in sectors ranging from engineering to finance and information technology.
Participation applications have been filed from across major US states and cities, including New York, Boston, Washington, California, Florida, Houston, Chicago, and from Canada. The largest groups of applicants include engineers, ICT specialists, finance professionals, senior managers, software designers, civil engineers and physicians.
According to ministry officials, Rebrain Greece has become one of the country’s most targeted mechanisms for attracting skilled Greeks abroad. They say the government’s repatriation strategy rests on three pillars: improving economic conditions through tax cuts and lower social security contributions, creating jobs and ensuring political stability; offering incentives such as a 50% income-tax reduction for seven years for returning expatriates and automatic recognition of medical specialties for doctors trained in the US – now extended to Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand; and promoting opportunities through overseas networking events.
To date, similar Rebrain meetings in Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, London and Stuttgart have drawn more than 5,000 participants and over 120 business delegations. Each event includes a presentation on the Greek labor market by the labor minister, a Q&A session on repatriation procedures, and thousands of one-on-one interviews between candidates and companies.
