GREECE, N.Y. — The Greece Town Board voted unanimously to approve proposed changes to the 2026 Manager’s Benefits Summary on Thursday night.
The new rule no longer allows town managers to cash out unused sick time upon retirement, eliminating the previous rule.
Supervisor Jeff McCann said the policy cost Greece taxpayers more than $240,000 when three retiring managers cashed out their unused time last year.
Previously, this was generally not an available benefit in any other town in Monroe County.
“This is an important first step in restoring transparency, accountability and responsible fiscal management to the Town of Greece,” said Supervisor McCann.
The new policy also requires managers to contribute toward their health insurance premiums when retiring.
Management retirees will be treated consistently with other town employees, paying the same premium contribution they paid while actively employed.
The changes will save an estimated $100,000 annually.
