The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has told UK citizen to not travel to certain zones in tourist destinations within the Eastern Mediterranean region as summer holidays are around the corner.
The FCDO updated it “no-go” zones in Turkey, Cyprus and Greece as Brits prepare for their summer travels.
Countries surrounding Greece, Turkey and Cyprus have also been plunged into conflict after the US and Israel carried out joint strikes on Iran one month ago. Iran responded by striking sites across the region, plunging the Middle East into conflict.

No-go zones in Turkey
Turkey-Syria border
FCDO had advised against all travel within 10km of the Turkey- Syria border. “Fighting in Syria continues in areas close to the Turkish border and there is a heightened risk of terrorism in the region,” the FCDO said.
It also warned that roads in Hatay Province leading towards the border may be closed at short notice due to the conflict.
Hakkari province, south-east Turkey
“In Hakkari province you must get permission from the local Governor’s Office to visit areas near the border with Iraq and Iran,” the FCDO said. It warned that if visiting with a travel agent or tour group, you should confirm with them whether you need an individual permit.
Mount Ararat, eastern Turkey
Mount Ararat is a special military zone and you must have permission from the Doğubayazıt government office and pay a fee. “If visiting with a travel agent or tour group, confirm with them whether you need an individual permit,” the FDCO said.
No-go zones in Cyprus
The FCDO said: “Terrorist attacks in Cyprus cannot be ruled out”.
Early into the Middle East conflict, the RAF Akrotiri on the island country was the target of suspected drone impact.

It also said that regional escalation poses significant security risks and has led to travel disruption.
No-go zones in Greece
The FCDO updated its information on Greece regarding the removal of information about mass demonstrations and widespread disruption to public services across Greece on 28 February.
