Greece’s Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos and Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir signed a joint statement in Ankara Wednesday launching a Greece-Turkey cooperation program in research and technology, during a bilateral meeting held in a positive atmosphere within the framework of the 6th Supreme Council of Cooperation.
The joint statement was signed as Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was in talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Turkish capital Wednesday afternoon, underscoring parallel diplomatic efforts at the highest level.
Ten Greek ministers held separate bilateral meetings with their Turkish counterparts in different rooms, reflecting a broader push to advance sector-level cooperation alongside the leaders’ private discussions.
Theodorikakos and Kacir also agreed to activate the memorandum of understanding on small and medium-sized enterprises that had been signed at the 5th Supreme Council of Cooperation, aiming to strengthen entrepreneurship and business collaboration between the two countries.
In addition, both sides committed to promoting the signing of new cooperation memoranda covering metrology, certification, and startup development, with a focus on boosting innovation, standards, and industrial cooperation.
They agreed to maintain close political contact and continue bilateral dialogue. Kacir is expected to visit Athens by the summer, while the Greek development minister plans to reciprocate with a visit to Turkey by September, underlining both sides’ intention to deepen economic and technological ties.
