Greece has raised alarm over the rapidly escalating situation in the Middle East, warning of the risk of a wider regional conflict with global consequences.
Georgios Gerapetritis stressed that the current trajectory of tensions could lead to an “explosion of violence” if immediate steps are not taken to de-escalate the crisis.
Growing concern over regional instability
Speaking on the evolving situation, Gerapetritis highlighted that continued military and political escalation — without clear diplomatic pathways — poses a serious threat not only to the Middle East, but also to international stability.
He warned that the interconnected nature of global security means the repercussions could extend far beyond the region.
Greece pushes for diplomacy
The Greek Foreign Minister emphasised the urgent need for intensified diplomatic efforts, calling on all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue.
He underlined that preventing further escalation must be an immediate international priority.
“The situation requires urgent action to avoid a broader confrontation with unpredictable consequences,” he noted.
Coordination with European partners
Athens is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the European Union and other international partners.
Gerapetritis highlighted the importance of collective European action to reduce tensions and support peaceful solutions.
A critical moment
The warning comes amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty, as Greece positions itself as a voice of stability in the region.
As tensions continue to rise, Athens is urging a return to diplomacy to safeguard both regional and global security.
