Syntagma Square in Athens was the place to be as Greece rang in 2026 with an electric New Year’s Eve celebration. At the stroke of midnight, a stunning firework display erupted over the city center, reflecting off the grand architecture of the surrounding Parliament buildings.
The highlight of the night was the view of the Acropolis, which glowed under the festive sky as explosions of color framed its historic columns. It was a sensory masterpiece of light and sound that captured the vibrant spirit of the Greek capital.
New year’s eve at Syntagma Square
For those who chose to ring in the New Year at the heart of the city, Syntagma Square offered a festive concert featuring Kostis Maraveyas and Rena Morfi, complemented by a massive drone show—the largest ever seen in Athens.
The evening kicked off with the melodic sounds of the Athens City Philharmonic Orchestra. Kostis Maraveyas took the stage with his signature Mediterranean style, blending folk, Balkan, and Latin rhythms. Rena Morfi followed with her “velvet” vocals and explosive stage presence, performing a mix of original hits and iconic folk covers.
As the final minutes of 2025 ticked away, the sky lit up with a spectacular drone show. Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, along with the artists and hosts, led the final countdown.
New Year’s Eve at the SNFCC
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center remains one of the city’s most elegant spots for the holiday. This year’s host was actor and singer Jerome Kaluta.
The program opened with Alexandra Sieti, a charismatic soul/funk performer, and her seven-piece band. A magnificent fireworks display over the Canal, accompanied by a special choreography of the Dancing Fountains, also took place.
