Greece’s Ergon hospitality group to open its first London restaurant

Greek hospitality group Ergon is set to open Taverna Ermou later this month, marking the restaurant’s first London site.

The 120-cover restaurant, spanning 2,500 sq ft over a single floor, will feature a range of Greek-inspired dishes.

Culinary director Panagiotis Xanthis has curated a menu that is rooted in Greek culinary tradition, featuring a selection of Greek meze plates and fresh salads, alongside pot and grill dishes, and pasta dishes.

Thomas Douzis, founder and chief executive of Ergon, said: “Taverna Ermou opened last year on Ermou Street, the iconic street in the heart of downtown Athens, and was loved by Athenians almost immediately. It was created as a tribute to the timeless Athenian taverna, both through its food and its warm, familiar design. On James Street we are bringing that same spirit to London, recreating the atmosphere, flavours and generosity of a true Greek taverna.”

The hospitality group is also in the process of opening its first hotel in the UK, in London’s Covent Garden.

The 20,000 sq ft London hotel will occupy a newly refurbished heritage listed building and feature 20 bedrooms, a private gym, and a 2,200 sq ft rooftop restaurant with alfresco terrace.

Douzis said: “Later this year we will unveil Ergon House in Covent Garden, a project that will bring together our approach to hospitality, food and design in one place.”

The group also owns two deli shops in London, one just off Regent Street, and the other in Stratford’s shopping destination, Westfield.

Founded in 2008, Ergon has been growing its presence across Greece, the UK, Qatar, the UAE and Cyprus.
