Greek artistic gymnast Lefteris Petrounias returned to the top of the podium at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Cairo, producing a gold-medal performance on the rings and once again underlining his class on the apparatus.
Petrounias scored 14.366 overall, earning 5.600 for difficulty and 8.766 for execution, as he added another major international title to an already decorated career.
The 35-year-old gymnast competed third in the final and immediately set the standard with a composed, high-level routine that none of the athletes who followed could match.

Armenian and Chinese rivals complete podium
Petrounias’ closest challengers, Artur Avetisyan of Armenia and Yang Liu of China, finished behind the Greek gymnast to complete the podium in Cairo.
His victory once again highlighted not only his technical quality, but also the remarkable consistency that has kept him at the top of the sport for so many years.

Greece’s Lefteris Petrounias: A career of distinction
The Greek Olympic champion has built one of the most distinguished careers in the history of artistic gymnastics, dominating the rings for years and establishing himself as one of the event’s all-time greats.
He won Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and added two more Olympic medals with bronze in Tokyo in 2020 and Paris in 2024, extending his presence on the sport’s biggest stage across three consecutive Olympic cycles.
At World Championship level, Petrounias has won three titles, in Glasgow in 2015, Montreal in 2017 and Doha in 2018, along with a silver medal in Antwerp in 2023.
His record in Europe has been equally remarkable, with eight gold medals at the European Championships in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025, as well as bronze medals in 2011 and 2023.
