According to Greek media reports and images, Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) signed the shipbuilding deal for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers in Greece on Wednesday.
The deal, worth approximately $500 million, includes options, the reports say.
LNG Prime contacted Tsakos Group to comment on the new order.
Brokers recently reported that Tsakos was looking to order two LNG carriers from HD Hyundai Heavy.
HD Hyundai Heavy announced on Thursday that it has secured an order to build one LNG carrier from an unnamed Oceania owner.
It remains unclear whether this order is related to Tsakos.
The order is valued at 367.8 million won ($254 million).
The South Korean shipbuilder will deliver the vessel by September 2029.
TEN currently has two LNG carriers in its fleet, both built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The company owns the 2016-built 174,000-cbm, Maria Energy, and the 2022-built 174,000-cbm LNG carrier, Tenergy.
In 2024, the company sold its 150,000-cbm vessel Neo Energy, built in 2007 by HD Hyundai Heavy.
