The Hellenic Army General Staff has launched a campaign encouraging women across Greece to join a new voluntary military service program, accompanied by a video message carrying the central slogan: “Responsibility for the homeland concerns everyone.”
The initiative invites Greek women aged 20 to 26 to apply for voluntary service in the armed forces, highlighting both their role in national defense and the professional opportunities the program offers.
Video campaign promotes women’s participation
In the promotional video, a young man and a young woman are seen outside a recruitment center before the woman enters the facility, symbolizing the growing role of women in the military. The video features training exercises, military instruction, and rank awards, while the message “the responsibility for the homeland concerns me too” underscores the call for broader participation in national service.
Application process and deadlines
Interested applicants can submit their applications electronically through the official website of the Hellenic Army until March 31.
The voluntary service will last 12 months, with the selection process expected to conclude in April. The first group of volunteers is scheduled to begin training by the end of June, primarily at the Material Warfare Training Center in Lamia.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must meet specific requirements to be accepted into the program:
- Be between 20 and 26 years old
- Have a physical fitness classification of I/1 or I/2
- Possess a clean criminal record
Female volunteers will hold the same military status as male conscripts and will be subject to the same regulations. They will also have the opportunity to be selected as Reserve Officer Candidates.
Professional opportunities and benefits
According to the General Staff, the program is designed not only as a form of national service but also as a pathway to professional development.

- Recognized work experience, strengthening future career prospects
- Opportunities for professional advancement, including reclassification as Short-Term Enlisted Personnel or recruitment as professional soldiers
- Access to military hospitals and recreational facilities
- Priority opportunities for graduates to work as civilian personnel within the Armed Forces in roles such as healthcare and administration
After completing their service, volunteers will remain in the Army Reserve until age 40.
Through its campaign, the General Staff stresses that voluntary military service represents both a personal choice and a meaningful contribution to the country, transforming responsibility for the homeland into concrete action.
