Three Greek-built ERMIS nanosatellites are set to launch into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, marking a major milestone for Greece’s growing space ambitions.
Ready for launch into space, the three ERMIS “Made in Greece” nanosatellites—ERMIS 1, 2 and 3—were manufactured at the Department of Aerospace Engineering of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and will be deployed into a 500 km orbit.
The launch is scheduled for March 30 at 13:20, and will be broadcast live via SpaceX.

First step in Greece’s national space strategy
The mission, known as the ERMIS Hellenic CubeSat Demonstration Mission, represents the first phase of Greece’s National Microsatellite Program, a €200 million initiative funded through the EU’s NextGenerationEU Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The ERMIS project itself has a budget of €4.9 million and aims to test and validate cutting-edge space technologies and applications.
Advanced technologies to be tested
The nanosatellites will focus on several key innovations, including:
- 5G communications for Internet of Things (IoT) applications
- Satellite telecommunications systems
- Earth observation using hyperspectral imaging technology
These capabilities are expected to enhance Greece’s role in next-generation satellite communications and data collection.
Strong academic and industry collaboration
The project is coordinated by the University of Athens’ aerospace department, with participation from:
- University of Patras
- University of the Aegean
- National Observatory of Athens
- OQ Hellas
The mission is supervised by the European Space Agency, with support from the Ministry of Digital Governance.
