March 25th is celebrated as the Day of Greek Independence, marking the beginning of the Greek people’s heroic struggle against the Ottoman Empire (1821-1830), which ultimately led to the establishment of the independent Greek State. In addition to its national significance, the day is also traditionally observed as the religious feast of the Annunciation.
