Multiple crews are on the scene after a Cessna C550 crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville, North Carolina, on Thursday.

The Iredell County sheriff has confirmed multiple deaths in the crash. Statesville Regional Airport reported an “aircraft incident” around 10:15 a.m. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is leading the investigation, and the airport is closed while local, state and federal agencies process the scene.

FAA registration records show the jet’s tail number, N257BW, is registered to GB Aviation Leasing, a company owned by former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle. Officials have not released information about who was on board the plane.

Weather Impact Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich shared an animation of the flight path. The plane immediately turned around after takeoff and attempted to return to the airport before crashing while trying to land.
