Guitar meets drums: Percoustix set to transform music industry

EDMOND, Okla. –

So, is it a guitar? Or is it a drum? No matter how you play it, it is destined to change the music industry everywhere.

It is the crazy idea of drummer David McHugh, creating drumbeats all while playing the guitar.

“These are basically no different than drum pads on an electronic drum set,” said David McHugh, Co-founder of Percoustix.

Functionality is carefully thought out.

“There’s an electronic field right above the pad, so, unless your hand enters that field first, then the pads are dead silent,” said McHugh.

He perfected the idea with his friend Taylor and secured the patent on it to protect their invention.

“He was this inventor and I was like, ‘Well, if you just need this tool, here you go,’ and then he was like, ‘No, I’m not that type of inventor, so, I need your technical help,’” said Taylor McGarry, co-founder of Percoustix.

They officially launched the company Percoustix in 2020 and have been rocking out ever since.

“It’s not only for everybody, but it’s for every music style. Like, anybody can pick this up,” said McHugh.

With a simple foot pedal, the sound can be changed.

The team planned a big launch date for preorders on May 19, with a big festival and demonstration in downtown Edmond.

“This area on First Street is all going to be blocked off. We’re going to have bouncy houses for the kids, and beer trucks for the adults,” said McHugh.

Artists from all over the country are coming to see this music scene-changer being created.

“I’m not going to say I’m surprised. I mean percoustix is incredible, but it is just an affirmation of just how incredible Percoustix is,” said Tomas Sandaval of Percoustix.

The big launch party is May 19, for more information and the event and Percoustix, visit their Facebook page, @Percoustix.
