Amazon Data Services has acquired George Washington University’s Virginia Science and Technology Campus for $427M.
WASHINGTON — On Monday, a letter was sent to the George Washington University community announcing the closing of the sale of the Virginia Science and Technology Campus. It was later reported that the buyer is Amazon Data Services. The company purchased the campus for $427 million.
Under the terms of the sales agreement, GW can keep programs at the campus for up to five years. The campus houses many programs, including the School of Nursing. But according to school officials, there will be no immediate impact on that school or any other program operating from that campus.
The campus launched in 1991 and supported research in engineering, physics, and chemistry. It is unclear what will happen to students and staff at this time. But, the board did announce a one-time bonus to “recognize and thank our faculty and staff for the extraordinary work they continue to do in the face of the many challenges facing GW.”
