Vincent Kompany has confirmed that
Harry Kane is a doubt for Bayern Munich’s
UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
The European heavyweights meet in the quarter-finals – live on TNT Sports and
HBO Max – with a last-four tie against either Liverpool or Paris Saint-Germain on offer. However, the German giants could be without their talisman Kane, who has scored 48 goals in all competitions this season.
Kompany confirmed that after sustaining an ankle injury on international duty with England – where he missed the
1-0 friendly defeat against Japan – Kane will not be available to face Freiburg in the Bundesliga this weekend.
Kane, 33, also sat out
England’s 1-1 draw against Uruguay before picking up the knock in a training session under former Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel.
“Harry trained well until Sunday, then he felt something in his ankle while with the national team. That will have an impact on tomorrow’s game [against Freiburg], he won’t be available,” Kompany said.
“Nevertheless, I’m positive about Tuesday. It’s not great, I’d like him to play against Freiburg, but as things stand today, that won’t be possible.”
Kane missed the first leg of Bayern’s last-16 tie against Atalanta – which Kompany’s side won 6-1 – before returning for the second leg and scoring twice.
The England record goalscorer has scored 10 goals in nine Champions League games this season, having also found the target against Chelsea, Pafos, Club Brugge, Union Saint-Gilloise and PSV.
Only Kylian Mbappe has more with 13, as the Frenchman prepares to line up against Kane’s side in an attempt to reach the semi-finals for the first time with Madrid.
