HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – New movie trailers and exciting announcements were dropped this week in Hollywood, and Hawaii has some special connections to each one.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” released its trailer on Wednesday.
Damien Memorial graduate Jacob Batalon returns as Peter Parker’s former best friend, Ned Leeds.
In the new movie, everyone has forgotten about Peter Parker’s existence, including his love interest, MJ. In the previous film, Spider-Man erased the world’s memory of Parker to save the multiverse.
Another Hawaii connection: the movie’s director, Maui native Destin Daniel Cretton.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which features multiple cameos, including the Punisher and Bruce Banner, swings into theaters July 31.
“Lilo & Stitch 2” has announced a release date.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the sequel will open May 26, 2028, the start of Memorial Day weekend.
Reports say Hawaii’s Maia Kealoha is expected to return.
The first live-action movie made history last Memorial Day weekend, earning $182 million over four days and becoming the first film to cross $1 billion in 2025.
“Dune: Part Three” released a new trailer on Tuesday.
Hawaii-born actor Jason Momoa is reprising his role in the blockbuster trilogy.
The sneak peek shows Momoa as swordmaster Duncan Idaho, who mentors Timothée Chalamet’s character, Paul Atreides. Fans last saw Momoa as Idaho in the first “Dune” film, released in 2021. Reports say Idaho returns in the sequel as a cloned version of himself.
Last July, we reported Momoa shaved his beard for the first time in six years to prepare for filming.“
Dune: Part Three” arrives in theaters Dec. 18.
