Like all the best streaming services, HBO Max has kick-started the month by bringing a bunch of new movies to the platform, meaning there are now dozens more to choose from on your next movie night.
If you’d prefer to get straight to streaming, I’ve already looked through everything that’s new on HBO Max in April 2026 and put together a list of the new additions to the platform that I think are definitely worth watching. Whether you’re after big-screen thrills, laugh-out-loud silliness, or keen to revisit a classic, there’s bound to be something to suit your mood.

Top picks
‘Alien’ (1979)
HBO Max just added five of the “Alien” movies (and the true “Alien vs. Predator” crossover flicks). Most of them got added on April 1, while the latest instalment, “Alien: Romulus” arrived on April 3, and that gives me the perfect opportunity to recommend a stone-cold classic.
Even though I’d typically shy away from a lot of horror movies, I’ve long adored the atmosphere and tension of Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi horror feature, and even after multiple viewings over the years, watching Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) dodge that terrifying Xenomorph aboard the Nostromo remains as entertaining as ever.

‘Game Night’ (2018)
Before bringing us the brilliant fantasy heist adventure “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein co-directed this hilarious comedy caper.
“Game Night” introduces us to Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams), who embark on a truly wild adventure. Their weekly couples’ game night is kicked up a notch when Max’s brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) organizes a murder mystery event and gets kidnapped. Across one chaotic night, Max, Annie, and the other competitors get in way over their heads as they try to crack the case, discovering that the “game” isn’t far from what it seems.

‘The Devil Wears Prada’ (2006)
“The Devil Wears Prada” has just landed on HBO Max, and seeing as the highly-anticipated sequel is just around the corner, now’s as good a time as any to revisit the ever-iconic comedy, right?
If you’ve never seen it before, “The Devil Wears Prada” sees college grad and would-be writer Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) landing a job at Runway, a prestigious fashion magazine. The role offers way more than Andy bargained for, though, as she butts heads with her new colleague, Emily (Emily Blunt), and finds Runway’s infamous, tyrannical editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), is a truly formidable foe.

‘The Mummy’ (1999)
If you’re looking for adventure this month, then “The Mummy” is the new-to-HBO Max movie you need to bump to the top of your watchlist; HBO Max has welcomed the entire trilogy to its roster, but the first feature is definitely the best of the bunch.
Stephen Sommers’ action/adventure movie whisks us back to the 1920s and takes us to the Sahara Desert, alongside treasure hunter Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser), librarian Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz), and her brother (John Hannah), who inadvertently stumble upon and resurrect Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), a vengeful Egyptian high priest.

‘Twister’
I’m rounding out this list with one of the very best disaster movies ever made: “Twister.” If, like me, you spent the summer of 2024 obsessed with Lee Isaac Chung’s legacy sequel “Twisters,” you should absolutely check out the original, too.
The film follows storm-chasing scientists like Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) and her estranged husband Bill (Bill Paxton) into the path of some violent tornadoes so they can collect some potentially life-saving data as a deadly weather front tears through Tornado Alley.
