Edwin van der Sar has issued a glowing verdict of Manchester United’s latest recruit to occupy the role between the sticks: Senne Lammens.
The Belgian international was brought in on deadline day last September following substandard starts to the season from both Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana, the latter of which had been demoted to backup ‘keeper in the aftermath of his dismal Europa League final display.

His final outing in a Red Devils shirt came in the side’s Carabao Cup opener away to Grimsby Town at the end of August, during which he conceded two first-half goals to the League Two opposition and a whopping 12 penalties in the shootout, confirming United’s exit from the competition at the earliest stage.

Meanwhile, Bayindir was simultaneously struggling in the Premier League.
In order to allow Lammens to be eased into the action, Bayindir started the three games before he signed as well as the three matches after, and conceded 11 goals as United sustained three defeats.
Since the 23-year-old has been given the nod each week, the Reds have lost only twice in his 20 appearances, while they’ve also claimed wins against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in that time.

Beloved Old Trafford legend Van der Sar was questioned on the summer signing’s impact and transition to English football when speaking with Gary Neville on The Overlap.
He said: “He (Lammens) is doing well. He’s responding well to the physical demands of the Premier League. I see him coming to collect the ball at the penalty spot; he shows confidence, makes saves when necessary, without trying to make unnecessary saves.

“I’m not here every day, and I don’t see every game, but he seems to have everything it takes to stay here for a long time.”
