Miami Heat guard Norman Powell is one of three players that will return to the lineup against the San Antonio Spurs.
While riding a four-game losing streak entering the new week of NBA basketball, the Miami Heat (38-33) revealed uplifting news to Norman Powell, Andrew Wiggins, and Jaime Jaquez Jr.
The three players, among multiple others, are listed as available for Monday’s matchup against the San Antonio Spurs (53-18), ClutchPoints’ Zachary Weinberger reports.
Miami has been dealt a large number of injuries recently. Getting three players back who share significant minutes for the Heat this season is a big deal as they battle for a better spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Norman Powell (calf), Andrew Wiggins (toe), and Jaime Jaquez Jr. (hip) listed as available vs. Spurs
In the official NBA injury report, the Miami Heat listed Norman Powell (calf tightness), Andrew Wiggins (toe sesamoiditis), Jaime Jaquez Jr. (hip tightness), Nikola Jovic (back injury management, and Pelle Larsson (right foot contusion) as players who are available to play on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs.
Norman Powell, whose role has gone as far as coming off the bench in recent days, hasn’t appeared in a game since March 19. The Heat’s top player in points per game this season (22.3) has played in just three games this month but will look to turn things around in the final week.
Andrew Wiggins has been out since March 5 while dealing with sesamoiditis in his right foot. He was originally listed as probable coming into the contest against the Spurs, but will make his return. He will likely have a minutes restriction.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. has missed the Heat’s previous two games with tightness in the hip. Erik Spoelstra is getting one of his most productive bench players back after originally being listed as probable.
Nikola Jovic has seen limited action since returning from an 11-game absence on March 21 due to a lingering back issue. He will be available for the Heat on Monday.
Pelle Larsson is on the report despite not being expected to miss time with a right foot contusion.
Terry Rozier (not with team), Jahmir Young (G League), and Vladislav Goldin (G League) are listed as out for the contest.
Heat Look to Shake Four-Game Losing Streak
Miami’s long list of injuries in recent weeks has resulted in a current four-game losing streak. With their main core of players being available against the Spurs, they look to get back to winning at the most important time of the regular season.
The Heat have been given a tough task on Monday as they take on the Spurs. The No. 2-seed in the Western Conference is on a current five-game win streak and holds the second-best record in the NBA.
Miami dipped in the Eastern Conference standings during its current losing streak. They are currently the nine-seed in the East with a 38-33 record. However, they are separated from the five-seed Toronto Raptors by one game entering Monday.
A strong push in the last 11 games is crucial to getting the best seed possible for Miami’s playoff push. The Heat have a tough three-game slate ahead as they take on the Spurs tonight. This is followed by back-to-back matchups against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday and Friday.
