With fashion doubling down on quiet luxury and ‘90s minimalist in the past several years, looks have largely been relatively simple and streamlined. On the spring/summer 2026 runways, however, we saw a glimpse at what is set to follow this era in fashion. Looks emphasized layering and inventive styling that add a sense of depth and dimension, which was diminished in the era of hyper pared-back dressing.
This is playing out in several ways. We’re seeing everything from clashing colors pairing unlikely shades together in one outfit to turtlenecks as a key base layer to stacks and stacks of poplin shirts. Accessories are also a key player, including seasonal standouts such as printed silk scarves and belts with high-impact buckles. Ahead, see the directional ways the fashion set will be layering in 2026, and shop the editor-approved pieces to wear each of the looks.
