A self-styled “artrepreneur,” Cathy Morris is using her skill and talent to help people of all ages at Arts for Purpose.
Morris says her career is built on performing original “party jazz,” a style that reflects her unique musical voice and emphasizes high-energy, expressive instrumental storytelling. She says she loves the deep connection between performer and audience, describing her role as both an entertainer and an “edutainer,” in which the exchange of energy and emotion is central to her performances.
Morris says she has a long-standing involvement in community arts education and outreach. Over decades of work in schools and other settings, such as adult daycares, she has helped bring arts programming to diverse audiences.
Morris says the ideal funding model prioritizes paying artists fairly while redistributing resources to ensure underserved communities can access arts experiences.
Framing art as a tool for creating positive change, promoting wellness, inclusion, compassion, and empathy, Morris says the arts are a sanctuary that helps people cope with life’s challenges and improve their quality of life. A key part of her approach is meeting people where they are, respecting different perspectives, and using art as a universal way to connect.
In addition, Morris facilitates opportunities for other artists and works to expand access to creative experiences for marginalized groups. She underscores the importance of community support, including donations and resources, to sustain these programs and continue reaching more people.
