A man is going viral on TikTok after highlighting a “green flag” he spotted on a date: She couldn’t figure out how to open the door of his McLaren.
Seto Kiswoyo (@seto_kiswoyo) shared a clip of the moment, showing the woman, presumably on a date with him, struggling to operate the car’s signature dihedral doors.
“Green Flag: When she doesn’t know how to open a McLaren,” Kiswoyo wrote in the ton-screen caption.
He reinforced the point in the post caption, adding, “If she knows, run king.”
As of this writing, the clip has racked up more than 3.2 million views, with viewers sharing laughs over the unusual dating metric.
How Do You Open a McLaren Door?
McLaren doors trip people up because they don’t work like normal car doors. That’s the point.
On most models, the process starts with the key fob, and drivers unlock the car while they’re standing nearby. You can also look along the door panel for a small button or sensor, usually tucked near the top edge or beneath the door. And once you press either button, the door will pop out slightly. From there, you lift the dihedral door outward—away from the car.
Where people get stuck is that the exact spot may change depending on the model. On cars like the 570S, you may have to feel underneath the door to find the button and press it while lifting. The 720S, meanwhile, is a little more forgiving, with a button that’s easier to find once you know where to look.
If the key fob battery dies, it gets more complicated, but not impossible. According to the McLaren Palm Beach website, there’s a mechanical key hidden inside the fob that lets you unlock the car manually.
All of this explains why not knowing how to open a McLaren door isn’t a knock against someone, since it’s the default. These cars are designed to look sleek, and if you haven’t driven or ridden in one before, you’re probably going to stand there for a second and guess. That’s normal.
Viewers Question Why This Is a “Green Flag”
While Kiswoyo’s video was clearly meant as a joke, some viewers questioned why not knowing how to open a McLaren door counted as a green flag. A few even suggested there might be a deeper reason behind his date’s struggle.
“Or she never had to open her own door,” one woman wrote.
“She shouldn’t know because you should be the one opening the door for her,” another added.
“What if she does and [is] just pretending,” a third person wondered.
Many also questioned why Kiswoyo let his supposed date fumble while he filmed.
“She doesn’t need to open a McLaren door,” one commenter said. “Why aren’t you opening it for her?”
“Why are you letting her open the door,” asked another.
“And why is she opening the door herself anyways???” a third chimed in.
Kiswoyo replied to the criticism: “Coz clearly I’m filming this for my enjoyment.”
Some women, particularly those familiar with luxury cars, joked that they would be permanent “red flags” to certain men.
“I work in luxury car sales so ima disappoint every man I ever meet,” one wrote.
“Guess I’m a red flag bc I just watched a video on 4 different ways to open a McLaren door bc of this video,” another quipped. “How will I ever live.”
