It’s hard, no doubt, as the perennial NBA All-Star has been one of the best players in the game for nearly two decades now, and with the Rockets up near the top of the Western Conference standings (despite a tough loss to the Spurs last night on NBA on NBC‘s Sunday Night Basketball), he’s not showing any signs of stopping.
But just how long has KD been in the NBA? And how many teams has he played for in that time?

How long has Kevin Durant been in the NBA?
Kevin Durant was drafted in 2007 by the Seattle Supersonics, and is currently in his 18th NBA season.

Here’s a clue as to just how long KD has been torching the league: He’s one of just two players still currently playing in the NBA who actually suited up for the Seattle Supersonics before that team moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder in 2008 (the other being fellow Rocket, Jeff “Uncle Jeff” Green). KD was drafted with the second overall pick in 2007, and played his first season with the Sonics before the move.

How many NBA teams has Kevin Durant played for?
In his 18 seasons in the league, Durant has played for five different franchises, but six different teams, since the Sonics became the Thunder after moving to OKC.
After playing for the Supersonics during the 2007/2008 season, Durant moved with the rest of the Sonics (much to the dismay of the entire Pacific Northwest) to Oklahoma City, where he and Russell Westbrook started a tradition of winning that continues to this day. Granted, they never won a chip with Durant, and in 2016, the riches of free agency called.
Durant signed up with the Golden State Warriors from 2016-2019, where he and Steph Curry became one of the deadliest one-two punches in league history, leading the Dubs to back to back NBA Championships in 2017 and 2018.

Granted, Durant’s been chasing that elusive third championship ever since, including stints with the Brooklyn Nets (2020–2023) and Phoenix Suns (2023–2025). In 2025, the Suns traded Durant to the Rockets in a blockbuster offseason deal, and that’s where he’s currently chasing his third ring, leading a talented Rockets squad that could make a deep run in the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
