As the cooler temperatures settle in on campus, Rowan University students reach for their longest coats and warmest sweats. Yet when the temperatures reach below 30 degrees, it never stops students from showing their stylistic flair all over campus.
Rowan faces many frostnip days, yet when the cold says no to rings and bling, students protest by pulling out their own way to say no to the cold. Style is shown everywhere on campus, from social media to daily interactions with fellow students.
Snow may crowd the walkways for students at 3:30 p.m., class time for sophomore Devan Walsh, winter fashion begins with keeping her own style upfront and personal.
“I keep it showing by putting my statement pieces together with more casual stuff. Comfy but still put together,” said Walsh.
Walsh further elaborates that although the winter weather does impact her style daily, she still loves how her style is able to flow and shift just like our dropping temperatures.
“I love winter outfits because they’re comfy and stylish at the same time,” said Walsh.
Although winter may not call for our favorite tanks or shorts, the one item Walsh says she will never go without is her puffer jacket. Keeping herself warm is a major plus when it comes to picking her daily outfits. Furthermore, Walsh expressed her love for more accessories even when it’s cold; they still add spunk to her daily looks.
Freshman Catie Hayes adds more depth to Rowan’s winter looks by saying layers don’t stop anyone from having some winter fashion fun.
“I try to wear jeans with a sweater when I can, and if it’s really cold, I’ll put leggings under my jeans. I also wear fleece-lined tights if I ever want to wear a cute skirt,” said Hayes.
Hayes also explained how she can’t live without her black winter jacket since the temperatures can be cold on some days.
“My black winter jacket because it’s freezing and I won’t leave my house without it,” said Hayes.
Junior Ava McKay says winter fashion is all about keeping herself warm while upkeeping her cute and expressive style.
“A fuzzy headband because it keeps my ears warm and looks cute. I also wear lots of sweaters in the winter because they’re warm and cute,” said McKay.
McKay’s style knows no bounds, even if the months drop below her favorite warmer months, yet layers come out to play in particular areas, as it allows her to show off her bold and expressive statement pieces.
“I don’t have a particular style. I like wearing coats, and sometimes I’ll be cold with only one jacket, so I can show a cute sweater or shirt that I’m wearing. I also wear lots of sets,” said McKay.
Additionally, McKay states how the weather does impact her style a great deal since her love for her purses shifts depending on the teeth-chattering nights.
“In the winter when I’m out with friends, I switch to a darker color bag like brown or black,” said McKay.
Rowan University’s students never play when it comes to their personal flair, even if the thoughts of a fresh new bathing suit and cover-up linger in the depths of their summer dreams. Although sometimes the winter may play with their styles, fashion hardly experiences any shortcomings, maybe only if on days you want to wear a baby tee over a knitted wool sweater.
