Huairou district officials said Thursday that the area”s growing cluster of large scientific facilities is now open to international partners, a move aimed at strengthening the Beijing district’s role in global research cooperation.

District head Liang Shuang said 16 major facilities have been opened for international collaboration, part of a broader network that now includes 37 installations, most of which are already conducting research. These facilities cover materials science, space science, earth science, and ecological studies.

In recent years, Huairou has emerged as a powerhouse of national strategic scientific innovation. Liang noted that the district has transitioned from isolated developments to an integrated cluster of scientific operations. A key milestone this year was the commissioning of a high-energy synchrotron radiation light source, positioning China at the forefront of the global field.

By fostering an “innovation matrix” that includes national laboratories, research institutions, leading tech companies, and top-tier research universities, the district has seen 63 breakthroughs in key technologies and produced 430 significant scientific outcomes.

Many of these achievements have been recognized with national and city-level science and technology awards.
