The world of culture and fashion is in mourning. Murielle Leconte, affectionately known as “Minouche”, an iconic figure and pioneer of fashion in Haiti, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in the United States, at the age of 66.
A Pioneer of Art and Fashion :
Born in Port-au-Prince on December 8, 1959, Murielle Leconte left her mark on the history of Caribbean craftsmanship. Although initially trained in engineering, her passion for aesthetics quickly took over.
She became a leading pioneer of hand-painting on clothing in Haiti, transforming each piece of fabric into a living work of art. Through her brand, “Murielle Créations“, she embodied Haitian elegance, celebrating the country’s cultural identity with vibrant colors and local textures.
A Journey of Courage and Inheritance :
Beyond her creations, Murielle Leconte was a symbol of resilience.
- Fighting Illness:
Diagnosed in 2010 with multiple myeloma (bone cancer), she demonstrated exemplary strength by continuing to create and innovate despite her health. - Mentoring :
Through her modeling agency, she trained several generations of young talent, leaving an indelible mark on the fashion and entertainment industry in Haiti. - Cultural Ambassador :
She brought dreams to life for the country, particularly during Carnival celebrations and major cultural events.

Ralph Youri Chevry, the mayor of the capital, expressed his profound sadness following this loss :
“Madame Leconte knew how to give us much more than clothes; she knew how to give us an identity, a history, and dreams. Port-au-Prince will not forget your work, it will not forget your dreams.”
He also offered his sincerest condolences to her family, colleagues, and loved ones, emphasizing the “great void” this loss leaves in the world of style and fashion. “Haiti has lost an elegant and creative artist who never accepted letting our days go by without brilliance. Her passing leaves behind an unparalleled breath of inspiration. May her soul rest in peace.”
