Indonesia marks 80 years with push to deepen ties with Greece

Indonesia’s embassy in Athens marked the country’s 80th anniversary with a diplomatic reception on Wednesday, highlighting Jakarta’s growing global role and deepening ties with Greece.

Ambassador Bebeb A.K. Nugraha Djundjunan said the milestone underscored “eight decades of nation-building” and reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to expanding cooperation. “We also see promising non-traditional areas of cooperation to advance shared interests, particularly in renewable energy and food security,” he said.

Guests of honor included Indonesia’s vice minister for the protection of migrant workers, Christina Aryani and Miltiades Gkouzouris, CEO of HVA International. Gkouzouris praised Indonesia as “an important partner for Greece in Southeast Asia,” particularly in the food-security sector.

Aryani emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad and said Jakarta is ready “to prepare skilled migrant workers to meet Greece’s needs across various specialized sectors.”

The event featured cultural performances and exhibits showcasing Indonesia’s economic progress and its outreach to Europe.
