Inside Stan State’s gaming club

Stan State Gaming Club meets on Fridays in the Science One building, offering students a place to relax and connect.

During the club’s first meeting of the semester, members were introduced to a variety of activities and events planned for the months ahead.

President of the Gaming Club Nathaniel Sherman (Junior, Biological Sciences) highlighted how the club offers more than just video games.

From trading card games to competitive tournaments, the club provides a space for students to explore shared interests and build community.

“Other clubs are focused more on one specific thing, but I like to think of Gaming Club as more of a conglomerate of interests, even though our main thing is gaming, but gaming is a lot of things,” Sherman said.

When it comes to events hosted by the club, they allow their members to vote on the events they wish to do in the future.

This is done through social media sites like Discord or Instagram and through this, they’re able to tell what the majority of the club wants to do or wish to change up.

“We try to expand by doing a different event for this semester, such as a different tournament. We’re planning on bringing back trading card game day, which is basically just a day where we focus on card games which a lot of people enjoyed in the past,” he said.

Nathan Williams (Sophomore, Studio Arts) explains how he found the Gaming Club, which was through his emails, which showcased the activities that were happening at Stanislaus State.

One of the reasons why he was so drawn into the club was some of the events that they hold during the different holidays of the year.

“The most recent would definitely have to be the Halloween event. I love all the costumes that people made, whether it’s from a TV show or game. I have thought about dressing up, but frankly, I’ve lost the motivation to do that,” Williams said.

Bryce Quintero (Freshman, Liberal Studies) also found the club through his close friends last year. He likes to contribute items to the club, usually during events like the holiday events, just to prep everything before everybody’s arrival.

“I kind of accidentally became the vice president, but I kind of feel that way at this moment, despite never being a part of Stan State and not being an official member, it’s more solidified as that. So other than the main meaning, that’s what I really like, I like organizing the events and being here with new people around,” Quintero said.
