Apple’s latest MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and especially MacBook Neo are breaking recordds
Tim Cook says Apple just had a record-breaking week for brand-new Mac users. While he won’t give details, it’s surely the low-cost MacBook Neo that’s leading the way.
Apple CEO Tim Cook is currently travelling the world as the company celebrates its anniversary, and so far seemingly hasn’t had enough time to post his usual photos on social media. But he has now taken to X to celebrate how well Apple’s recent Mac launches have gone.
Mac just had its best launch week ever for first-time Mac customers. We love seeing the enthusiasm!

He of course does not give any figures, and in fact he gives no further details at all. Cook doesn’t even break down whether he’s talking about all three of Apple’s latest releases, or just the brand-new MacBook Neo.
That was launched alongside updates for the already successful MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. But where the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro have an existing audience that periodically upgrades, the MacBook Neo has not.
Plus the MacBook Neo is designed to be low-cost, starting at $599 (or $499 for education), which is about half the price of the next lowest price model, the MacBook Air. It was aimed at a whole new market for Apple, and first reports from the industry were that Windows manufacturers were shocked by its price and quality.
Anecdotally, AppleInsider is hearing from users of Intel Macs upgrading to the MacBook Neo, but if anything has led the charge for users brand-new to Mac, it’s likely to be this one.
AppleInsider has described it as the “new king of budget laptops.” It is not for all users, but it seems to be right for a great many people — based on its specifications and now Tim Cook’s news.
