We are in that time of the year when hearts are made (or break), soulmates meet (or leave). We are in Valentine’s Week, so staying true to this love-hate theme, we have a raid day, right on the big love day itself!
Starting on 14th February, 2-5pm, the Love-Hate Pokémon Enamorus (Therian Forme) will be making its debut in Five-Star Raids. So does Therian Enamorus make any fairy-tale impact on the meta?
Enamorus (Therian Forme) is a Fairy Pokémon introduced in Generation 8 with the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It is a Legendary Pokémon from the Hisui region and is a member of the Forces of Nature, along with Torndaus, Thundurus and Landorus. Its dual typing causes it to have 5 different weaknesses and 6 different resistances which includes an impressive double resistance to 4 different types: Ground Dragon Fighting and Bug.
Let us start with Therian Enamorus as a Fairy raid attacker. Now, Therian Enamorus has the moveset a Fairy raid attacker would want—A Fairy type Fast Attack in Fairy Wind and a Fairy type Charged Attack in Moonblast. But, Therian Enamorus when compared to Incarnate Enamorus, trades Attack for Defense when it comes to stats. Therian Enamorus has an Attack stat of 250 and Defense Stat of 201 whereas Incarnate Enamorus has an Attack stat of 281 and a Defense Stat of 162. Both forms have the same HP stat of 179. This trade understandably, doesn’t benefit Therian Enamorus as a Raid attacker. It also recently lost Dazzling Gleam for Moonblast in its Charged Attack movepool. Using our DPS Comparer Tool, let us compare Therian Enamorus with other Top Fairy Attackers:

As we can see, Therian Enamorus’ DPS is more than 3 points behind Incarnate Enamorus. Neither the stats trade nor the recent moveset update for Therian Enamorus helped it in anyway when it comes to its role as a Fairy raid attacker. If Therian Enamours had access to Dazzling Gleam, its performance would have improved considerably, although, for obvious reasons it would still lag behind Incarnate Enamorus.
As a raid attacker, Enamorus has a pretty strong performance despite not having a type Fast Attack. As expected, Incarnate Enamorus has better standing as a raid attacker than Therian Enamorus. Here is a comparison of Therian Enamorus with Top Flying Raid Attackers:

Clearly, Incarnate Enamorus is the preferred choice when it comes to raids. However, Therian Enamorus Raid Day does give players an excellent chance to stock up on normal and XL Enamorus Candies.
Ideal Moveset: Fairy Wind
+ Mystical Fire
& Moonblast
Let us now have a look at Therian Enamorus in PvP. Going back to the Attack-Defense stat trade, unlike in PvE, this trade helps Therian Enamorus in PvP. Not only the stats, even the recent movepool update provides Therian Enamorus with a much varied movepool. All of this helps Therian Enamorus outshine its Incarnate counterpart with new wins like Cobalion, Corviknight and Florges in Ultra League. In Master League, the difference is narrower but still in favour of Therian Enamorus with new wins like Mewtwo, Zekrom and Kyurem (Black).
Currently, it is not possible to have a Therian Enamorus below 1500CP. Since, Therian Enamorus for now is only available in raids, the lowest level it can be encountered at is Level 20. At Level 20, and with a IV of 0/0/0 (which can be obtained via trading), Therian Enamorus has a CP of 1692, which is above the 1500CP threshold required for Great League.
In Ultra League, Therian Enamorus does have a good number of wins, although the total number of losses are still higher than total number of wins. The 4 different double resistances that Therian Enamorus has come in handy with some notable wins against top meta Pokémon like Giratina (Altered), Moltres (Galarian), Shadow Feraligatr (loses to non-shadow) and Virizion. There are some notable losses as well like Walrein, Lapras, Lickilicky, Empoleon and Gastrodon. Overall, I would say that while Therian Enamorus may not be meta breaking, it has a lot of potential to be an anti-meta pick.
Therian Enamorus’ ideal IV spread for Ultra League is: 0/14/14, 2499 CP, Level 27.5.
When it comes to Master League, Therian Enamorus becomes interesting. With no CP cap, Therian Enamorus can be powered up to its maximum potential. In zero and 1v1 shield scenarios, Therian Enamorus doesn’t have great results to show with more losses than wins. The wins include Yveltal, Zekrom and both Black and White Kyurems, while the loses include Ho-Oh, both Zacian and Zamazenta forms and Metagross.
However, in 2v2 shields scenario, the script flips, with now there being more wins than losses. Some of the new wins include Xerneas, Reshiram, Dialga (Origin) and Eternatus. Looks like saving shields is the key for Therian Enamorus to perform at its maximum potential.
Therian Enamorus’ ideal IV spread for Master League is: 15/15/15, 3830 CP, Level 50.
While Enamorus, both Incarnate and Therian, do make some impact in the Pokémon GO meta, the impact is still limited. All that can change in the future when Enamorus gets access to its signature move: Springtide Storm. We have already seen multiple such examples, where a Pokémon’s signature move really uplifts its performance and we can hope that the same will continue in Enamorus’ case. For now, all we can do is prepare!
Well Trainers, we have now reach the end! Enamorus is really interesting with both forms having their own niche. Incarnate Enamorus really impacts the PvE meta, while Therian Enamorus does hold its own in PvP. Got to give credit to the devs as well for updating Therian Enamorus’ movepool, which now better reflects its PvP niche—It is this kind of pro-activeness we as players hope for!
