  The Geneva Jazz Festival – Scott LaFaro Celebration was founded in 2022 to bring more jazz to the central Finger Lakes. While jazz remains a vibrant genre in city areas, it is often sparsely represented in rural areas, and since Geneva was home to Scott LaFaro, one of the most influential bass players in jazz, the festival was born. Co-Founders, Janelle Bradshaw and Michael Gonzalez, in cooperation with many local businesses, have been able to present national, regional, and local talent for the local community.  

  Scott LaFaro (April 3, 1936 – July 6, 1961) was an American jazz double bassist known for his work with the Bill Evans Trio. LaFaro broke new ground on the instrument, developing a counter melodic style of accompaniment rather than playing traditional walking basslines, as well as virtuosity that was practically unmatched by any of his contemporaries.   The Geneva Jazz Festival – Scott LaFaro Celebration was founded in 2022 to bring more jazz to the central Finger Lakes. While jazz remains a vibrant genre in city areas, it is often sparsely represented in rural areas, and since Geneva was home to Scott LaFaro, one of the most influential bass players in jazz, the festival was born. Co-Founders, Janelle Bradshaw and Michael Gonzalez, in cooperation with many local businesses, have been able to present national, regional, and local talent for the local community.  

  Scott LaFaro (April 3, 1936 – July 6, 1961) was an American jazz double bassist known for his work with the Bill Evans Trio. LaFaro broke new ground on the instrument, developing a counter melodic style of accompaniment rather than playing traditional walking basslines, as well as virtuosity that was practically unmatched by any of his contemporaries.
