GREECE, N.Y. — Jason “J-Mac” McElwain was honored Friday night during a special halftime celebration at Greece Athena High School. The event marked the 20th anniversary of his legendary basketball game.
McElwain, who became a high school sports legend, was celebrated during the game against Brockport Central. News10NBC caught up with him and one of his former teammates.
“I was feeling so excited, I threw him up right on my shoulders, and I’m the one holding him up on the magazine,” Michael Long said.
“I hope that it made more of an impact on people with special needs and people with — that don’t play much, they get an opportunity to play an opportunity not, they’re ready for that moment,” McElwain said.
“The whole place came to life, it was – you know, the buzzer went off, the court got flooded, and the rest was history,” Long said.
The celebration seemed to bring some magic to the game, as Greece Athena defeated Brockport 63 to 45.
