Mizzou alum Jontay Porter is returning to pro basketball, signing a contract with the Seattle Super Hawks of the United States Basketball League.
Porter has not played professionally since his banishment from the NBA for gambling in 2024. Porter is the younger brother of Mizzou alum Michael Porter Jr., currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets. He is also the older brother of current Mizzou senior forward Jevon Porter.
Porter spent the 2017-18 season with the Tigers before missing out on his sophomore season with a torn ACL and MCL in his knee. He spent parts of the next four seasons bouncing between the G-League and the NBA before settling in Toronto with the Raptors.
His NBA career came to an end north of the border when the league banned him for life for violating its gambling policies.
The USBL serves as a resurrected version of the previous United States Basketball League that operated from 1985 to 2008. The league is set to begin its first year of play with a Spring schedule. All teams are located on the west coast.
“As a former NBA professional, Jontay brings significant talent to the team,” the team said in an instagram post. “A 6’10 Power Forward, Jontay is marking a new chapter in his professional basketball journey!”
Porter is set to make his debut against the Lilac City Legends at 9 p.m. March 7 in Seattle.
