MT. CARMEL – Mt. Carmel Junior High students brought home gold Feb. 24, as the Jr. Aces competed in the regional science fair in Carbondale.
Five students competed individually on the day, including Eli Wilcox, Matalei Greer, Kinley Mandrell, Addison Carmickle and Mia Dickerson. While the duo of Andrew and Annie Hagerty competed as a partner group.
Multiple students received monetary awards including Andrew and Annie Hagerty for outstanding STEM Project, Kinley Mandrell for outstanding physics, Addison Carmickle for overall excellence provided by the School of Medicine, Matalei Greer for overall excellence sponsored by the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Mia Dickerson for outstanding zoology project sponsored by the School of Biological Sciences, Microbiology.
Greer, Carmickle, Mandrell and the Hagerty duo all secured gold ratings, Mia Dickerson with silver, and Eli Wilcox with bronze.
