American media reports claim that US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle personally encouraged US President Donald Trump to proceed with an official visit to Greece.
According to journalist Michalis Ignatiou, speaking to SKAI, Guilfoyle was present in the Oval Office and reportedly “urged” the president to “definitely” include Greece in his upcoming international travel plans.
Ignatiou noted that, according to the report, failure to secure such a visit could place her diplomatic standing under scrutiny. While the claim has not been officially confirmed, it underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen US–Greece ties.
The reports follow the recent meeting at the White House between Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, held within the framework of the Greece–US Strategic Dialogue.
Pending invitations remain for both Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to visit Washington and for President Trump to travel to Athens.
According to the same reports, Ambassador Guilfoyle has also held meetings not only with President Trump but with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Rubio, signaling an active diplomatic agenda in Washington.
If confirmed, a presidential visit to Athens would mark a significant moment in US–Greek relations, particularly amid ongoing discussions on defense cooperation, energy security and regional stability.
