Timing is everything. Stepping into the La DoubleJ presentation at golden hour gave a new meaning to the brand’s motto: “Raise your vibration.” The natural light filtering through the windowed rooftop terrace of the company’s headquarters in Milan, where the fall 2026 collection was presented, amplified the mood-boosting designs of J.J. Martin and the joyful spirit she instills in her fashion.
The brand’s founder recently witnessed the power of timing as well. Her fall 2026 effort traced back to a sacred site tour of Ireland she took last summer. In between meditations and visits to crumbling ruins, she went to Dublin’s Trinity University, where she encountered the Book of Kells, the iconic illustrated manuscript dating back to the ninth century. The ornamentation of the pages — combining traditional Christian iconography with swirling motifs, figures of humans with mythical beasts, interlacing patterns and vibrant colors — immediately clicked with Martin.
The visit resulted in new prints for fall, with designs of snakes, dragons and wild creatures appearing on fluid shirts and palazzo pants, for example. Drawing from Celtic decorative motifs, the patterns added to the more familiar geometric and floral ones splashed over pleated minidresses and figure-hugging alternatives.
Martin also added new silhouettes to her ever-expanding world, including a billowing long dress with a ruched detail on a shoulder that is likely to solve many wedding guests’ wardrobe dilemmas come fall.
Yet her most striking work this time was on outerwear, a category one doesn’t immediately associate with her brand but that offered compelling options for those looking for statement pieces. The voluminous peacoat in brushed checks and a handsome oversized grey coat embellished with pink feathery appliqués were great ways to turn the mundane into the joyous and raise (fashion) frequencies even on the coldest days.
