Natali Germanotta — Lady Gaga‘s younger sister — is stepping further into the spotlight.
The fashion designer and costume maker will showcase one of her iconic pieces that she created for her Grammy-winning sister at the inaugural Las Vegas Fashion Week on Nov. 15. The piece is a bold pink feathered coat that Lady Gaga wore for her Las Vegas residency in 2021. The singer wore the striking piece for “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” and “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love.”
Of the coat, Germanotta jokes she’s still finding feathers in her studio.
“It was made out of 60 boas that were all a custom blush pink color, and they were all hand-sewn onto this stretch mesh base that we made,” Germanotta tells PEOPLE exclusively. “So it was super lightweight, and we lined the coat inside and out because we felt it’s really important for when she does a reveal. That’s why we always do these really big drama coats in the beginning, and then you have a huge reveal moment underneath. I just remember the actual process of hand sewing, like, feather boas; it’s hard to do. They’re really difficult to stitch through.”

The statement coat came together beautifully, though Germanotta admits she made quick work of it. While painstaking to create, the coat came together in a matter of “days,” she says. Working at a fast pace is where Germanotta thrives, she says, as a “deadline” gives her a way to stay on task and create efficiently.
After Gaga wore the coat in 2021, it was placed in a safe storage space, where it has lived for a few years now.
Bringing it back out for her Las Vegas Fashion Week debut felt like the right move because the coat was originally worn in Las Vegas and because it feels in line with the fashion of the city.
“I really thought that it highlighted a lot of Vegas showmanship with the feathers and the bold color. It’s very luscious,” Germanotta says. “It has a lot of drama to it, and I love the way that feathers move on stage, too. It’s almost like the least amount of air, the better, because it just creates this kind of whimsical movement.”

Best of all, all the materials she used to make the coat are available in Germanotta’s store that she owns with husband Alex Dolan in Las Vegas. The two opened On Stage Essentials earlier this year in Las Vegas. The costume supply and custom design store features everything anyone could need to create the perfect showgirl look — and beyond.
On Stage Essentials joins Germanotta’s previous business, TOPO Studio, which is based in New York. Her fashion studio, which is working in partnership with On Stage Essentials for the Fashion Week showcase, is where she primarily works out of in creating her custom pieces.
Germanotta has created a number of pieces for her sister, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, 39. In addition to the feathered coat, Germanotta also made one of the looks that Lady Gaga wore for the 2022 Grammys.
For the evening, Gaga wore three looks, one of which was a teal crepe-back satin silk velvet dress with a feather capelet. The singer shared on Instagram the day after the awards show who the creator behind the look was, writing, “Thank you to @topostudiony for hand making this beautiful 👗 for me 🥰.”
TOPO Studio also showed off the gown on its Instagram page the day after the event with a series of photos. The custom-dyed dress also included a hand-ruched “heart” bodice in crepe back satin.

Germanotta tells PEOPLE it’s always a joy to get to create with her big sister, and she’s extremely grateful for the support Lady Gaga gives her.
“It’s always really rewarding working with my sister on pieces,” she tells PEOPLE. “We’ve worked on a lot of projects together now. And just working with your sister, I don’t know, it feels like a really open and creative space to be really collaborative, and she’s just incredibly supportive of me and my designs as well.”
The designer even dishes that while she’s creating pieces for Lady Gaga, she likes to listen to the music that the singer plans to perform while wearing the pieces. She says it helps her visualize the moment the garments are on display and embody the vibe.
Germanotta, who will soon launch her own fashion collection under the label Natali Alexander, also gushes over the coat that will be at Las Vegas Fashion Week, saying it felt “particularly special” to make that one.
After the coat is displayed at Las Vegas Fashion Week, Germanotta and Dolan are planning to put it on display in On Stage Essentials for a week so more people can come see it up close. After that, Germanotta says the custom garment will go back into its safe storage place.
