‘I need to see improvements’ – Rosenior on Chelsea’s poor disciplinary record

Neto’s red card was The Blues’ ninth of the season in the Premier League and hindered their attempts to find an equaliser in the final 20 minutes at the Emirates.
And Rosenior said he would begin to consider discipline when making team selections.
“If you look at our stats, when we have 11 men on the pitch our chance of winning goes through the roof,” he said. “That needs to be motivation in itself to make sure we stay disciplined in key moments.
“Sometimes a setback is giving the ball away. Sometimes a setback is a referee making a decision you disagree with. In that moment, you have to react positively. Then you have to think of the next thing. That’s the things that we have to go after in order for our discipline to improve.
“You pick players who are showing that improvement. I can’t afford to go for a season every two or three games with a red card. It’s just not possible. I need to see improvement in that. I need to adjust my team selection based on who is showing those capabilities.”
Rosenior revealed that the Portuguese winger “apologised to the group”.
“I just need to see an improvement in the behaviour now,” the Chelsea boss added. “It’s not just Pedro. People speak about dissent; we’ve had needless bookings in terms of fouls.
“If we are to improve and get to where we want to be, we have to make a conscious step now to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Reflecting on the game as a whole, Rosenior bemoaned his side’s inability to deal with Arsenal’s set-piece threat.
“It’s been the same story for the last three games,” he told Sky Sports. “You have performances to get results, and it is the same story… [we were] in the ascendancy for all three games.
“We are together, because what I never do, whether we win or lose games, is start pointing fingers at players. But it is clear what we need to improve. It is not our football or attacking play, we need to make sure we are ruthless in both boxes.
“To concede two goals from corners, and get another red card, that has been the story of our season. It has been the story of the last few games.”
