Luka Doncic #77 of the Los Angeles Lakers in action during the first quarter of the game against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center on March 16, 2026 in Houston, Texas.
Slovenian guard Luka Doncic is on a generational heater. Over his last six games, the Los Angeles Lakers star has amassed 227 points, 55 rebounds, 46 assists, 13 steals and seven blocks with a net rating of 15.2, while leading his team to wins.
Per ESPN Insights, Doncic’s six-game PPG of 37.8 is the highest by a Laker since the late Kobe Bryant, who averaged 39.5 points during a similar stretch in 2011-12.
Through nine games in March, Doncic has averaged 34.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 2.0 steals and a block while leading the Lakers to an 8-1 record.
Luka Doncic Climbs Lakers Ranks
Also worth noting is that Doncic’s performance against the Houston Rockets on Monday — 36 points, six rebounds, and four assists — marked his 52nd 30-point game since he was traded to the Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks last season. In the process, Doncic climbed to 12th in the list of most 30-point games by a Laker, trailing only Kobe Bryant (431), Jerry West (350), Elgin Baylor (343), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (193), Shaquille O’Neal (188), LeBron James (145), George Mikan (107), Gail Goodrich (98), Anthony Davis (96) and Magic Johnson (93).
At his current pace, Doncic is expected to surpass Goodrich before the end of the 2026-27 season as he continues to affirm himself as one of the top scorers in Lakers history. James Worthy, whom Doncic surpassed on Monday, couldn’t stop praising the Slovenian after he helped the Lakers beat the Rockets in a crucial game.
“It took me 14 years to [score 30] at least 52 times,” Worthy said on the Spectrum SportsNet postgame show. “He’s got his in a year-and-a-half.”
Lakers Keep Winning
The Lakers won their sixth game in a row on Monday, further tightening their grip pver the second seed in the Western Conference. The most impressive part of the winning streak has been their defense, with JJ Redick’s team holding opponents to 29.5% shooting while allowing an average of 111.2 points. The Lakers’ offense has been firing on all cylinders, allowing them to outscore teams by 10.0 points during the win streak.
After Monday’s win, Redick spoke of the improved Lakers defense.
“It’s something that we’ve struggled with earlier in the season,” Redick said of the Lakers defense, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
“I think that shows the commitment that our guys have right now to that end of the floor, understanding we’re going to win with both sides of the ball. We won a lot of games with the offensive side of the ball, and we’ve shown, I think, now — whether it’s been the Knicks game, the Wolves game, this game — we can beat good teams with defense.”
The Lakers (43-25) will face the Rockets (41-26) once again on Wednesday night before continuing their road trip with stops at Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers. The Lakers could lock up the top-three seed by the end of their trip.
