Major off-price fashion retailer opening new Sarasota County store

Since 1973, Nordstrom Rack has been delivering high-end brands at a low-end price. Now, on March 19 at 9 a.m., Sarasota County shoppers can visit their own Nordstrom Rack location.

Spanning 27,000 square feet, the new store — and the only location in Sarasota — will sell discounted apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty products and home decor at a discounted price.

The off-price retail division of Nordstrom, a luxury department store founded in 1901, will open at 6507 S Tamiami Trail on March 19. The grand opening at Sarasota Pavilion will feature a DJ, refreshments and gift card giveaways.

Nordstrom Rack runs discounts up to 70% off on the same brands found at Nordstrom stores. The new location resides in the same pavilion as a Publix, Ross Dress for Less and Marshalls, an area that InvenTrust Properties owns and operates.

There is another Nordstrom Rack location in Bradenton. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The hours for the location in Sarasota haven’t been made publicly available yet.

The department store chain is opening another Nordstrom Rack in Melbourne. It also opened another location in Coral Springs in fall 2025. It currently operates six Nordstrom stores and 19 Nordstrom Rack stores in Florida, generating 2,800 jobs statewide, according to the press release. There are more than 350 Nordstrom, Nordstrom Local and Nordstrom Rack locations across the U.S.

Nordstrom got its start in the shoe business in Washington, before expanding into women’s apparel in the 1960s. Men’s and children’s apparel followed in the late ’60s. In 1973, the company opened the first Nordstrom Rack, and in the ’90s, it launched Nordstrom.com, all while expanding East.
