When you see the new Malibu Ski Club boutique in Beaver Creek you may wonder how the visions of surfing big waves in California and skiing in the Rocky Mountains go together but for founder Brian Nebozuk, it made perfect sense.
“In 2024, I was on a ski trip in Courchevel, France and identified a need in the market for some fun, truly technical ski gear, but in fun colors, exciting styles and fits, and wanted to bring that to life at an accessible price point,” Nebozuk said.
Here Nebozuk was, in a luxury European ski resort where all of the high fashion houses like Dior, Louis Vuitton and Moncler have their alpine collections, but Nebozuk realized, “it’s a $4,000 jacket and not everybody, even if you can afford a $4,000 jacket, wants to spend $4,000 on a jacket.”
From there, Malibu Ski Club was born and Nebozuk, who was born and bred and California, decided to go forward with this modern alpine lifestyle brand inspired by the contrast between mountain culture and coastal ease. The designs blend technical outerwear with refined silhouettes and bold color stories, creating elevated ski and après ski pieces that transition seamlessly from slope to lodge to street. Beyond aesthetics, authenticity is a very important part of the brand as well.
“I was actually sitting next to a friend on a chairlift explaining to her what I was embarking on with Malibu Ski Club and she just looks at me and says, ‘I just spent $1,500 on this jacket, and it doesn’t even have a pocket for my ski pass. It’s not a real ski jacket if it doesn’t have a pocket for your pass.’ Everything we make, we want to make sure that you’re able to ski in it,” Nebozuk said. “It’s got all the technical needs of a ski jacket. It’s made with an Italian eco-friendly down fill, it has the ski pass pocket on the sleeve. It’s got storm cuffs, snow skirts, double zips, detachable hoods and it feels good.”

Things have moved swiftly for Malibu Ski Club. Nebozuk launched the brand in October and is already in Nordstrom and the list of vendors keeps growing. The Beaver Creek store is located on the plaza near the ice rink and just opened this season.
“I always encourage people to try it on and when they put a coat on for the first time there’s an audible, ‘Oh, wow, this feels good,’ because it just fits well and it feels good. And then you look at the price tag and we’re providing the best value at the best cost we possibly can,” Nebozuk said.

The Malibu Ski Club jackets run in the $400-$475 range. In addition to ski jackets, which are women-specific, there is a lifestyle line as well.

“The accessories, hoodies, caps, beanies and more are unisex products,” Nebozuk said. “It’s something that people are comfortable wearing — that hoodie to the beach or that jacket to walk the dog in. It can be that everyday puffer. It’s not brands like Goldberg, Perfect Moment, the Moncler that’s kind of very specific to the mountains.”
Nebozuk is excited to expand offerings in the outerwear line and expand reach. He says the feedback has been positive so far.

“Response has been you know nothing but positive and nothing’s more humbling than seeing orders come in from all over the country,” Nebozuk said. “And anytime I’ve been in a position to sell the product myself in person, it’s great to see the excitement that people have shared about how they cannot wait to be the first one to wear this on the mountain.”
