Man arrested after being accused of stealing $70K in jewelry from Greece Ridge Mall kiosk

GREECE, N.Y. — A 26-year-old Rochester man is facing charges after Greece Police say he stole about $70,000 worth of jewelry from a kiosk at Greece Ridge Mall.

Victor Maisonet is charged with burglary, grand larceny, and criminal mischief. Police say on April 4 at around 8:15 a.m., officers responded to Monarch Jewelers inside Greece Ridge Mall for a report of a robbery.

Police say Maisonet entered the mall through an employee corridor while most stores were still closed, and tried to get jewelry behind the kiosk counter. They say when unsuccessful, Maisonet used a tool to smash a glass display case and stole multiple gold necklaces valued at about $70,000.

Surveillance video later showed Maisonet leaving the mall in a Nissan Altima, which helped officers identify Maisonet.

Police say Irondequoit Police officers detained Maisonet Tuesday after a pawn shop owner reported he was trying to sell the stolen jewelry. Greece Police officers responded and took Maisonet into custody.

According to police, they recovered stolen jewelry, cash, and other items inside his car.

Maisonet was transported to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment.
