Man arrested for Mall at Greece Ridge jewelry heist

Greece, N.Y. — A man faces charges after police said he stole approximately $70,000 worth of jewelry from a kiosk at The Mall at Greece Ridge.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary at Monarch Jewelers around 8:15 a.m. Saturday. The Greece Police Department said Victor Maisonet, 26, entered the mall through an employee corridor while most stores were closed and tried to access jewelry behind the kiosk counter. When that didn’t work, “he used a tool to smash a glass display case and stole multiple gold necklaces” before leaving the mall.

Greece police said Irondequoit police detained Maisonet on Tuesday after a pawn shop owner reported Maisonet was attempting to sell jewelry believed to have been stolen from Monarch.

Officers took Maisonet into custody and recovered stolen jewelry, according to Greece police. They found additional items and cash inside his vehicle.

Maisonet was charged with burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief. Police said he was taken to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment. He was not listed on jail roster Wednesday afternoon.
